James Canty

James is a recent graduate of Printmaking and Contemporary Practice in Limerick School of Art and Design.  Following his degree show he was awarded Limerick Printmakers’ Graduate Curatorial Bursary. He specialises in relief print, monoprint, video and installation. During and since his time in college James was also involved in facilitating, exhibiting in, and curating a series of exhibitions with the Ragaire Collective.

Cantys work is rooted in immersive hyper-reality, colour, affect theory and subculture. His work is structural, physical and expressive. The use of strong colours with raw imagery signify his experience within hyper-realities. Transportation of a viewer to another world, and the way viewers interact with his art in space are of the utmost importance for Canty.
