Rachel McDonnell

Rachel McDonnell is an Irish Glass Artist based in Limerick City.

Exploring representations of the landscape through kiln forming techniques. Working delicately to build up the glass layer by layer with the use of glass powders, hand crushed glass, flame formed stringers, hand painting, kiln formed inclusions and cold working. This way of working allows Rachel to gradually build up texture in the pieces and also work in a reactionary, organic and intuitive way.

Rachel received a BA Fine Art from MTU CCAD. Whilst completing her honours degree she co-founded an artist led studio space and gallery Basement Project Space, Cork City.(2009-2012). Later she was awarded a place on the mentoring programme in the Glass Department in MTU CCAD. Although currently focusing on the material of Glass Rachel has always experimented and played with materials and mediums. More recently had the opportunity with thanks to Limerick Arts Office and Limerick Printmakers to experiment with printmaking processes and the use of recycled glass.

Rachel is a current Board Member of the Glass Society of Ireland. Having just returned from a session at Pilchuck Glass School, Seattle she looks forward to spending time in Spacecraft to develop new ideas and have the opportunity to play with materials in conjunction with glass e.g. light, paint, printmaking.
